Psalm 92

Read Psalm 92 ESV

Who - An unnamed psalmist writes to the LORD.

What - This is a psalm written for Sabbath worship.  The psalmist is declaring the LORD’S goodness and the joy it brings him to see the works of the LORD’S hands.  He is also expressing his hope in the LORD for deliverance and vindication against his enemies.  As this is a psalm written for Sabbath worship, it is meant for the congregation to sing and embrace as their own prayer to the LORD.  The psalmist does not identify a specific problem, but seems to be focusing on the LORD’S worthiness of praise even though a general threat exists.

When - unstated

Where - unstated

Why - The psalmist is pointing to all the reasons for praising the LORD and to call his hearers to praise the LORD.

How - The psalmist opens with a declaration of the LORDS worth and being deserving of praise.  The reason for praise is the steadfast love of God, and the work of his hands. In the next section the psalmist describes how the foolish cannot see the LORD’S work.  He then connects the wicked to being foolish for not seeing the LORD’S hand and thus disobeying.  This results in their destruction even though they flourish for a while.  In the last section the psalmist describes how the LORD blesses and delivers the righteous from the wicked.

So What
  1. The LORD is worthy of praise.  We should praise Him in song with singing and instruments in corporate worship.  Our worship flows from our joy in the LORD.  The basis for our worship should be the LORD’S works and attributes.
  2. We can look to the LORD for help when we need deliverance from an enemy.  (vs 9)
  3. Once deliverance comes, we should proclaim the LORD’S work to others.
